Amber founded Kitsap County Skeptics in 2010 and also organizes Kitsap Atheists. She has worked in orchid conservation, science communication and is currently a science and math teacher at Tacoma's Science and Math Institute AKA SAMi. In June of 2023, she started the SAMi Bat Habitat Project. In coordination with the Point Defiance Zoo and Tacoma Metro Parks, this student organization builds bat boxes for placement in Point Defiance Zoo and Park. Part of SBHP is SAMi Bat Ambassadors, students who travel to local schools to teach students about bats and their absolutely vital role in our local ecosystems. Amber is especially interested in bat immune systems and how their longevity may help scientists unlock the secret to human longevity and health.
